Open House 2017

The new school year is off to a wonderful start.  I am only sad that with having 42 classes, the rotation takes 7 days now.  So, needless to say, although I have quality time with them when I have each class, it takes 9 days before I see them again.  Here are a few grade level pictures and videos of what our busy musicians have been doing this first month of school.  This first video is Ms. Johnson's 5th Grade class.  They are singing in a two part round adding 3 part accompaniment and ribbons.
The second video is Ms. Farnell's 4th grade class sharing their song from India: Shri Ram, jai Ram. This unit was a combination of learning about instruments and performers from India, sing and playing an accompaniment in the style of Middle Eastern music,  along with an Art lesson of Henna from Mrs. Detrich's art class.
First Grade playing bass xylophones and metalophones to Bounce High Bounce Low

Second Grade Mr. Staggs' class composing Lucy Locket pocket melodies and playing instruments for Make a Friend song.

Kindergarten singing.
Stay tuned for more musical moments this year.

Where did the school year go?

I can not believe school has been out for over a week...at least for teachers and more for students.   I got so far behind on posting classroom activities it is not even funny.   So, to start, I am going to post a video or a few of the CFIES Kindergarten Programs.   Remember, it is on two separate days with different classes singing.  First is Tuesday's performance featuring Hernandez (Taylor) Rosage, Porterfield, and Martin's classroom singers.

Where Do Teaching Ideas Come From?

Do you ever wonder where some ideas for our lessons come from?  Well, during those Professional Development days, our music teachers are in a class with Professor Dan Johnson from UNCW.  The presentation is integrating science and social study concepts into our music classroom.  This is an impromptu exercise working with sounds and layers.  This group of Onslow County music teachers were creating an "ocean of sounds"
